I was given the opportunity to help Ed and Michael move. The house when we arrived was a diamond in the rough. The photos at two weeks show the elbow grease results.
I was taken back by the beauty of the mountains. The lay out provided many areas to have quiet time and think. The yoga room is open with windows on all sides. The terrace would be ideal for tai chi. For me, being so high up in the mountains, I felt very close to God. It is truly a piece of heaven.
I plan to make another trip to visit where the focus is not on moving and setting up a house, but on "me" time, and connecting with my inner self. You should put a visit to Ser La Luz on your bucket list. A return trip is on mine.

This was one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed. Both Michael and Ed were very warm and welcoming and had tons of activities that we were able to do. The room we stayed in was so lovey and quite and just what I needed to unplug from my everyday life. The fresh food and views were 5 stars in my book. The only thing that I can say that need to be improved is that I need more time off. I will be back for sure.

My stay could not have been more pleasant. The hosts were very accommodating, gracious and knowledgeable of the area. I have already threatened them with my return. Anyone wishing to visit Costa Rica should consider this area. The vista from the patio was breath taking.

Michael and Ed were fantastic hosts, even during a rather stressful visit to the country -- we came came to visit over the Thanksgiving holiday, right as the first ever recorded hurricane was hitting Costa Rica! Michael and Ed's calm, welcoming, and kind demeanor really put us at ease. The "adult-sized" bunk beds were so fun and SO comfortable. The room itself is well-designed and decorated, and stocked with all the necessary creature comforts. We truly enjoyed getting to know Michael, Ed, and their adorable pets in the morning over a couple mugs of delicious french press coffee, fresh fruit, and a taste of their healthy "gallo pinto" brownie recipe! 🙂 I would have loved to see more of the property and to enjoy a yoga class had Hurricane Otto not urged us South so quickly -- I would certainly return in the future!

The Ser La Luz mountain yoga retreat / bed and breakfast was heavenly! Nestled in the hills of the Central Valley, the temperatures were so comfortable that when the rains came, you could be lulled off to a deep sleep... Ed and Mike are wonderful hosts and very interested in making sure you enjoy your Costa Rican escape, getting whatever you want out of it: whether it be rest and restoration or exploring the Volcanoes and cloud forrests. After smoothies our first morning there, Ed lead us through a restorative yoga that was truly bliss after the hectic travel day before. Feeling serene AND invigorated we were ready to explore! The views and gardens this property has are nothing short of spectacular. The yoga studio, with its almost 360° views, brings nature's beauty to your work out. In the morning, I woke up with a view of the lush mountainside from my window. Our hosts arranged transportation for us when we needed it and instructed us on the bus system as well. Tours were also available easy enough. Special requests we had were honored. Our hosts were also open to suggestions we had. Interestingly enough, optometry and excellent dentistry are so affordable and in the town of Grecia (10-15 minutes from B&B) that my friend and I availed ourselves of the services. Quirky detail but important to remember perhaps... We were there in the "winter" month of June. The morning arrives early at 5:00 with an occasional rooster crow and the sun shines till late morning. The clouds roll in and the rain eventually comes with a light show and lots of "noise" by evening. At 4800 ft. we were always comfortable. At an average of 78° the days never got unbearably hot/muggy nor too cold in the evenings. I am looking forward to going back to Costa Rica someday and would love to stay with Mike and Ed again.

Our stay at Michael and Ed’s place was simply perfect. It was for us, the best way to end our trip in Costa Rica. After spending a few days in the most touristic places in the country, we were looking for a quiet place to relax, practice Yoga and meet locals. That’s exactly what we found at Michael and Ed’s place, but not only : we were able to visit beautiful surrounding (including Volcan Poas), to enjoy an amazing landscape from the house, to explore the cities around (Grecia, Sarchi), eat great food and most importantly : meet Michael and Ed.
Their hospitality and kindness made our stay absolutely perfect. Above all they are both wonderful people and there’s not doubt one can have an amazing time with them. You can plan to go there when you arrive in Costa rica or before leaving from San Jose because it is located not far from Alajuela where the international airport is. It can be easier to access by car to see the surroundings but we did not have one and it was totally fine ! If you have any question, feel free to contact me !
